Paul Menard got to “Kiss The Bricks” at Indy Wicked Local (blog)
Even though the Brickyard 400 came down to a fuel mileage race, it still had a storybook ending. Menard held off a very hungry Jeff Gordon who was trying to get back to his winning ways. It was Paul’s first win and what a place to pull it off! For RCR Racing it was their third IMS victory. Couldn’t help but notice lots of empty seats with whole grandstands shut down. Not a surprise though as 230,000 seats to fill are impossible to fill in this economy. Also, winning crew chief “Slugger” Labbe, a Maine native, was pretty hyped over it all.
Over on the other side of Naptown, Tim Peters won the NASCAR Truck race at Lucas Oil Raceway, or Indianapolis Raceway Park as it’s still more commonly known. But John Sauter still leads the point chase in spite of his 23rd place finish. An intense Brad Keslowski won the “Swan Song” Nationwide race there.
Elsewhere Jensen Button won the Hungarian GP holding off Sebastian Vettle and Fernando Alonso. Carlos Checa took the Moto GP at Silverstone. In Finland Sebastian Loeb won the World Rally event.
