BELLE FOURCHE - Everything from insurance for the Belle Fourche
Senior Center to Butte County Teen Court pitched their services and
financial needs to the Belle Fourche City Council at a special
budget meeting Wednesday, Aug. 10, 2011.
Belle Fourche traditionally has given financial support for local
and regional organizations that directly and indirectly serve
residents and improve the city's economy.
All but two of the groups had representatives on hand to explain
their needs and their impact on the community.
No decision on funding in the 2011 budget was made by the council
after hearing the presentations.
The groups and their funding requests included:
NeighborWorks: Sharon Martinisko, Community Outreach Coordinator
for the nonprofit based in Deadwood, told how increasing emphasis
is coming to Belle Fourche in helping low to middle income people
become homeowners and overall to improve their neighborhoods.
Nearly 20 percent of homebuyers assisted through NeighborWorks are
in Belle Fourche, she said, and 174 homeowners have been helped
since 1998. This year the organization is partnering with Black
Hills Power to target Belle Fourche with energy audits to help cut
home utility costs.
