Annual Holiday Insurance

Trend on Travel: the trouble with insurance

In this report Which? didn’t analyse the relative value and cost of the policies offered by the airlines, but price is another key issue in the industry. When I renewed my annual policy last year, I paid £90 to cover a family of four. While I was researching I found other policies with worse terms and lower limits at more than twice that price.

It seems to me that something is wrong in an industry where pricing and coverage are so mismatched, and where so many customers do not fully understand what they are buying. Inevitably it must mean that large numbers of people are buying the wrong product at the wrong price.

Of course travellers must take some responsibility for their decisions, and for checking the details of what they are buying. It may be that we all need to invest a little more time digesting exactly what coverage we are signing up to, but those who sell these important products need to play their part in making sure that all their customers are better informed and better served.
