Travel advice: missed connections and flight costs Telegraph.co.uk
Gill Charlton replies
You had been sold a through-ticket as part of your holiday package. This means
the airline that caused the delay must sort out a new onward flight for you
free of charge.
The problem is that you didn't give Virgin Atlantic or Virgin Holidays the opportunity to do this. You should have gone to Virgin's transfer desk on arrival at T3 or telephoned Virgin Holidays on the 24-hour duty office number supplied in your holiday pack. The company would then have booked you on the next available flight without your having to pay.
Travel insurance doesn't usually cover missed flight connections because the risk is too high. The good news is that Virgin Holidays has now agreed to reimburse you for the new tickets.
Southern Europe without the crowds
We want to spend 10 days touring an area of southern Europe next month – somewhere away from the tourist hordes.
