High Net Worth Home Insurance

Debretts to offer home insurance for the rich Telegraph.co.uk

In February this year, RBS Insurance launched Direct Line Select, a premium insurance product that provides high-net worth individuals with a single solution policy for home, contents, motor, travel and even pet insurance needs.

Promising "enhanced levels of cover and greater levels of customer service" these lucky customers benefit from only one policy renewal date and 150pc of contents cover should their belongings have increased in value since the cover was purchased.

Though Direct Line will not reveal how many customers have taken up the gold-plated policies, Stuart Ballantyne, head of Select, does say it has been a success.

Mr Ballantyne said: "Since the launch of Select, we have attracted two types of customers; the true high net worth clients that have previously used a broker, and the unaware underinsured customer, whose needs are not being met by their mainstream insurer.

"Between February and April this year, 64pc of homes we visited were significantly underinsured and would possibly not be covered if items need replacing in the event of flood, fire or theft."

Bonfire Night, Lots Of Bangs But Does Your bHome Insurance/b Cover b.../b

Bonfire night is fast approaching but as well as lots of fun and bangs, there can be accidents – safety must come first and it’s best to make sure you have the insurance cover you need.

According to statistics from The BIS (Department for Business, Innovation & Skills), over 6,600 people are injured and treated for firework accidents each year, with half of these injuries happening to children under 16.

If any accidents occur on your property, you could be liable for a personal injury claim, and not having enough personal liability cover in place, could leave you severly out of pocket.

Julie Owens, head of home insurance at moneysupermarket.com, said “For those planning a fireworks party at home, it is essential to ensure your home insurance policy is up to date and that you have adequate personal liability cover.

In the event of an accident such as someone getting burnt on the bonfire, you could find yourself liable for any injury or damage if you are not covered by insurance.

In addition, you could find yourself facing a hefty payout. The same applies if you are at a friend’s party and are hurt by a firework, they will need to have adequate insurance to cover any injury.”

Britain’s number one comparison site warns consumers not to get burnt this year by failing to check small print of their home insurance policy. Most insurers will provide Brits with cover for personal liability to the tune of £2,000,000, however insurers can vary in the levels of cover they provide so checking the small print is crucial.

Remember too, bonfire night can be a frightening time for pets – t’s not a good time for pets with the worries of Halloween and chocolates at the end of October.

As Julie Owens adds “I would also advise pet owners to think carefully about ensuring their four-legged friends are protected from any potential dangers as the fireworks season kicks off.
