3 Components Of bAffordable Life Insurance/b Rates (Beyond Comparing b.../b

Beyond vague suggestions to “compare term life insurance quotes online,” it’s not so easy to find online advice on how to buy the most affordable life insurance.  Without a doubt, a vital part of finding favorable life insurance rates is to compare term life insurance quotes; however, five minutes spent learning what determines your life insurance rate will afford you an invaluable perspective for your search for affordable life insurance rates.   Read on:

What determines your life insurance rate?

If you’ve ever used an agency or website to compare term life insurance quotes before, you’ve seen the factors that determine term life insurance rates.  Here’s a list of them:

Term period Health class (rate class)

There’s not a lot you can do to turn some of these inputs into affordable life insurance rates.  However, a little work on your term period, coverage amount, and health class can do wonders.

Term period

If you hadn’t noticed already, this article has a bias for term life insurance.  Why?  The most affordable life insurance by far is term insurance, and term life insurance will meet the needs of almost all private insurance shoppers.

Term life insurance coverage ends after a period of 5–30 years (your particular term is stipulated in your contract).  Permanent life insurance policies, the more expensive alternative, can be maintained indefinitely, thereby making certain that the insurance company will one day pay a death benefit, even if the insured’s death was a timely one!  Most of us only need death benefit in case of premature death, so my advice is don’t pay for a permanent policy.

(Permanent life insurance does possess virtues for which it deserves to be touted, but these virtues are, in my opinion, not relevant to everyday insurance needs.)

Choosing a short term period (5 or 10 years) will make your coverage cheaper.  The downside to short-term life insurance is that if you develop a health problem or other impairment to your insurability and then after 10 years need to buy a new policy, you may find yourself in a higher rate class.  If you had bought a 20-year policy, you would have locked in a favourable rate for the entirety of those 20 years.
