Nimrod on target for Golden Nugget Harnesslink
Trained at Forrestdale by Greg Bond, Nimrod, favourite at 5/4, started from barrier four on the back line and mustered considerable early pace and worked hard, three wide, before charging to the front after a lap.
He then set a solid pace and sprinted the final 800m in 58.3sec. to win by 2m from Nuclear Bunny, rating 1.57.9 over the 2100m journey.
Nuclear Bunny also showed that he should be prominent in feature events for four-year-olds next season when he fought on with great determination. He settled down in eighth position before sustaining a spirited three-wide burst.
Nimrod, who gave Colin Brown his 120th driving success for the 2010-11 season, did not race as a two-year-old before winning three times from nine starts in New Zealand earlier this season. He now has won at three of his six WA starts.
The Golden Nugget is run over 2536m and Nimrod, a Dream Away gelding, has won over 2500m and run prominently over 2600m and 2700m in New Zealand.
