When I contacted M&S, its press office looked at your daughter’s case again and is now prepared to swap the £1,650 worth of gift cards for credit which can be spent  on appliances.

M&S says its gift cards do have exceptions clearly displayed on the back and on the card’s packaging. These are domestic appliances, M&S Energy, M&S Money, BP franchise stores and made-to-measure shirts.

The domestic appliances operation also does not accept M&S Chargecard. But you looked on the internet and spoke to staff before asking for gift cards. M&S accepts the terms and conditions could have been more prominently displayed on its website.

It has already taken action to make sure the terms and conditions are now clearly visible on the gift card page online. This is an excellent response from M&S. It’s just a pity it took my intervention for it to leap into action.
