The policy, which is the first of QBE's products available through a social networking site in the UK, will be available to all full-time students aged between 19 and 35, who are registered at a higher education institution in the UK.

The insurance required for a year abroad differs greatly from gap year cover as university students are older, they go abroad with more belongings to fixed accommodation and a fixed daily routine, where the majority of students speak the local language.
QBE European operations underwriting manager of Accident & Health Mark Gibson said Social media is a new distribution channel for QBE, and the YearAbroadInsurance.com offering is a highly-targeted product incorporating many features suggested by previous year abroad students.
"It directly addresses the difficulty many students encounter when trying to get reliable and appropriate cover for their time abroad," Gibson said.
